How To Create One-click Shutdown and Reboot Shortcuts

Step 1  : Create a shortcut on your desktop by right-clicking on the desktop, choosing New, and then choosing Shortcut.

The Create Shortcut Wizard appears.

Step 2  : In the box asking for the location of the shortcut, type shutdown.

Step 3  : After you create the shortcut,double-clicking on it will shut down your PC.

But you can do much more with a shutdown shortcut than merely shut down your PC. You can add any combination of several switches to do extra duty.

e.g.    shutdown -r -t 01 -c "Rebooting your PC"

Double-clicking on that shortcut will reboot your PC after a one-second delay and display the message "Rebooting your PC." 

The shutdown command includes a variety of switches you can use to customize it.

List of funtions:-

-s

Shuts down the PC.

-l

Logs off the current user.

-t nn

Indicates the duration of delay, in seconds, before performing the action.

-c "messagetext"

Displays a message in the System Shutdown window. A maximum of 127 characters can be used. The message must be enclosed in quotation marks.

e.g.    shutdown -s -t 03 -c "Good Bye Dude"

         shutdown -r -t 03 -c "I'll Be Right Back Soon"

-f

Forces any running applications to shut down.

-r

Reboots the PC.

How To Disable A Language Bar (Win XP)

In order to disable a language bar on your PC, you need to use a classic view of control panel. If you are using category view of control panel, please switch the setting.

Step 1  : Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Regional and Language Options.

Rename 'Recycle Bin' To Whatever You Want

Make sure you backup your registry before changing anything although changing 'Recycle Bin' name is a simple tweak and doesnt affect anything else.

Step 1    : Start, Run, 'Regedit'.

Step 2    : Press 'Ctrl'+'F' to open find box and type 'Recycle Bin' to search.

Step 3    : Change any value data with 'Recycle Bin' to whatever name you want to give it (e.g. StartSmart  

                 Trash).

Step 4   : Press F3 to continue searching for 'Recycle Bin' and change wherever you come across 

                 'Recycle Bin' to new its new name.

Step 5    : Repeat step 4 until you have finished with searching and changed all values to its new name.

Step 6    : Close regedit and hit F5 on desktop to see the new name on screen.

Windows 8 is the codename for an upcoming version of Microsoft Windows, a series of operating systems produced by Microsoft for use on personal computers, including home and business desktops, laptops, netbooks, tablet PCs, and media center PCs. The Start menu is replaced by the new “Start screen”, which includes live application tiles. The user can return to the regular desktop by choosing a “Desktop” application. Examples of applications on the Start screen include a weather application, Windows Store, Investments, RSS news feeds, user’s Personal Page, and user’s Windows Live Account. The new interface is primarily designed for 16:9 screen resolution, with 1366×768 and larger screens able to display two Windows 8 applications using “Snap”. 1024×768 screens can display one Windows 8 application in full-screen, and 1024×600 screens can only use the traditional Windows Desktop. It has been confirmed by Microsoft that PCs with mice and keyboards can also use Windows 8. Microsoft also announced that Windows 8 will use the processor and the physical memory more efficiently, to make Windows run more smoothly. Mike Delman, Microsoft’s vice president of global marketing, hinted in an interview that Windows 8 would have Xbox Live integration, similar to Windows Phone 7.
